The Women Composers Festival will highlight performances by dozens of women composers on May 27 at The Church of the Epiphany in Washington and May 28 at AMP by Strathmore in North Bethesda, Md.
The two-day event is hosted by Boulanger Initiative, a nonprofit whose mission is to promote music composed by women through performance, education, research, consulting and commissions. Boulanger Initiative advocates for women and all gender marginalized composers.
Day One of the festival will feature over a dozen regional musical groups and artists, including District5, Atlantic Reed Consort, Whistling Hens, Balance Campaign, Titilayo Ayangade, among others. Day One will also include the East Coast premiere of composer Alexandra Gardner’s new work, “Sanctuary of Joy,” for violin and organ commissioned by Boulanger Initiative.
Day Two will feature Recap with Lainie Fefferman, Leila Adu, Jiji, and Attacca Quartet & Caroline Shaw. Day Two’s in-person performances will also be livestreamed.
